Robert Dale Poisel, 84, peacefully passed away October 12, 2023, with family by his side. He was born February 1, 1939, in Hebron, Indiana to Charles Edward and Bertha Mae Poisel. Robert joined the Navy in 1957.
While in the Navy, Robert took a ten-day leave, hitchhiking both ways, to see the love of his life, Carolyn Jean White. They were married October 19, 1959, and have been blessed to have almost 64 years of marriage. In 1977 they left Hebron, Indiana and moved to Argos, Indiana, where they have stayed ever since.
Robert spent most of his career as a union carpenter. He loved building things with his hands. An avid fisherman and hunter, many family memories were made camping, hunting, and fishing with his family. After retiring from the University of Chicago he took up a new hobby buying boxed lots at local auctions and garage sales. He would spend hours cleaning up his treasures to resell or donate to local thrift stores.
Robert and Carolyn built a beautiful family together. Robert was proud of his family reaching four generations. Robert is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his three sons, Dale (Paula) Poisel of Tippecanoe, Terry (Adrian) Poisel of Rochester, and James (Chantel) Poisel of Argos; grandchildren Shane (Tabitha) Poisel, Alicia (Brandon) Blackford, Brittany (Tim) Shirley, Preston (Amanda) Poisel, Samantha (Connor) Rains, Alyssa (Christopher) Chilton, Caleb Poisel and Jacob Poisel; and his great-grandchildren Dacota, Fayth and Hope Poisel; Brandt, Marshall, Jackson and Penelope Blackford; Mason Shirley; Paitlynn, Preston Jr. and Madelyn Poisel; and Wesley Rains, and siblings Marilynn Benda, George (Pat) Poisel, Carol (Jerry) Dust, Donna (John) Mier.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clifford (Arlene) Poisel, infant brother Everett Poisel, sister Betty Irelan, and grandson Joseph Poisel.
Visitation for Robert will be on Tuesday October 17, 2023, from 11 a.m. -1 p.m., with service beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dale Poisel and Pastor Annis Crum at the Church of Jesus Christ on North Michigan Street in Argos, Indiana. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Poplar Grove Cemetery.
