Jean Hetrick Obituary

Jean Headley Hetrick, 75 of Walnut Street, Argos, Indiana died on February 4, 2016 at 7:32 a.m. at her residence.
She was born on February 11, 1940 in Lottsburg, Virginia to Howard H. Headley and Ruth E. (Rock) Headley at the home of her grandparents, Harvey and Evaline Headley.  She lived there for 4 years until her father joined the army in the summer of 1944, during World War II.  At that time, she and her mother moved to the home of her maternal grandparents, Irving & Ruth Rock.  Jean's father was killed in the battle of Hurtgen Forest in Germany on November 15, 1944 and is interred at Henri-Chappelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Plombieres, Belgium.

Several years after his death, Jean and her mother moved to Petersburg, Indiana where she attended and graduated from Petersburg High School with the class of 1958.  Jean returned to Virginia in 1959, where her three daughters, Shanna, Cindy, and Lisa were born.  In December of 1970, they moved back to Petersburg, Indiana.

On July 29,1994 in Henderson, Kentucky Jean married Max Lester Hetrick Sr., together they lived in Oakland City, Indiana until April of 1999 when they moved to Argos, Indiana to be closer to Max's family in northern Ohio.  They both worked at Duke Energy, before retirement, Jean for 20 years and Max for 28 years. Jean started in 1975 in Customer Service and retired in 1995 as the Office Manager.

She and Max traveled to Europe on several occasions, visiting Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Italy, France, England, Ireland and Scotland.  They
also visited Alaska, The Yukon  and had an excursion to Australia to visit with Max's family there.

Jean was a voracious reader and could usually be found with a book in her hand at any hour of the day or night.  She was an excellent seamstress and made her daughters' clothing when they were young.  She enjoyed knitting, and was quite talented, with her entries in the Marshall County Fair winning a First Place and a Reserve Grand Champion in 2015. Jean played the piano and enjoyed singing.  She participated in church choir and with the Marshall County Chorus.  She sang in six Christmas performances of Handel's “Messiah”, which she thoroughly enjoyed,  especially when it was performed with a symphony orchestra.
