James “Jim” D Burkett left this world on January 19, 2025, 2:18 pm, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth with his family by his side after battling Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia, and he’s now praising his Savior all the day long with no pain.
In Rochester, Indiana on December 20, 1953, Jim was born to Devon and Mary Priscilla (Powell) Burkett. Jim lived all his life in the Argos community.
Jim graduated from Argos High School with the Class of 1972. He furthered his education at Ball State University then graduated from Grace College in 1977.
In Argos on May 21, 1977, Jim married Deborah (Overmyer), and they shared over 47 years of marriage and raised three daughters.
Jim began his career as a financial advisor in 1986 with offices at one time in Plymouth and Rochester. He loved talking to clients and never knew a stranger, including people sitting outside stores on benches while he waited for the girls to shop. Jim attended The Cross, Rochester, and New Song Church, Plymouth. He served on the Plymouth Wesleyan Church Board for 6 years.
Jim served on the Argos School Board for 8 years. He loved watching Argos soccer and basketball and was a bookkeeper for Argos for years. He also coached youth baseball, youth soccer and jr. high basketball at Argos. Jim was a numbers guy - he could always rattle off stats and tell you who held what professional home run record from 50 years ago. Jim was the master of “dad jokes” before it was cool. Jim will truly be missed and remembered as a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend; but most importantly Jim was a Godly man and now is enjoying the blessed assurance that he can enjoy eternity with Jesus.
Jim is survived by his Wife – Deb Burkett of Argos, Indiana
Daughters – Jennifer Hutchison and husband Aaron of Argos, Indiana; Katie Burkett of Argos, Indiana; and Megan Wagoner and husband Gary of Burket, Indiana
