James Birath Ely

James Birath Ely, 86 of rural Akron, Indiana and formerly of the Argos community passed away April 21, 2023, at 7:52 a.m. at his residence. On June 19, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois he was born to John B. Ely and Dorothy (Johnson) Ely. He lived most of his life in Marshall, Pulaski, and Fulton Counties, Indiana.

In 1977 he married Geraldine Merriman; she preceded him in 2013.

James was an auto mechanic and he served in the United States Marine Corps from June 25, 1954, to June 24, 1962, when he received his Honorable Discharge.

James is survived by his Children – Jackie Mace and husband Rob of Akron, Indiana, and Jim Ely and wife Gloria of Argos, Indiana.

4 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren  

Brother – Paul Ely and wife Dorothy of Tennessee  

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, Son – John Ely, and Grandsons – Tyrus and Corey

Cremation Services have taken place.
