Gene LaMarr Higbee, 70 of N. First St., Argos, Indiana died on August 6, 2014 at 12:10 a.m. at his residence following a very lengthy illness.
He was born on February 14, 1944 in South Bend, Indiana to Alvin & Irene (Dover) Higbee. Gene had lived in the Argos community since 1997, coming from LaPorte, Indiana
On March 27, 1995 in LaPorte, Indiana he married Linda C. (Ginter) Higbee, she preceded him on October 2, 2000.
He was an over the road Truck Driver, retiring in 1999 following some health issues.
Gene proudly joined the United States Marine Corps on August 15, 1961 serving with the 1st Service Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He served 3 years, 11 months, and 4 days in Vietnam and received his Honorable Discharge on June 23, 1974. He was a member of the Argos American Legion Post #68, Argos, Indiana.
Gene is survived by his Daughter – Delilah Bingle and husband Jerry of Terre Haute, Indiana
Grand Daughters – Lora and Brittany Bingle of Terre Haute, Indiana
Sisters – Nellie Moore of Mishawaka, Indiana; Joan Riggs of South Bend, Indiana; Barbara Lopez of Mishawaka, Indiana; and Dianne Perkins and husband Ernice of South Bend, Indiana
Sister-in-Law – June Higbee of South Bend, Indiana
He is preceded in Death by his Parents, Wife, Brothers – Richard Higbee and Alvin Higbee, Brother-in-Laws – Henry Moore and Marvin Riggs, and Sister-in-Law – Beulah Higbee.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday August 12, 2014 from 9:30 am - 11 Am at Earl-Grossman Funeral Home, 208 N. Michigan St., Argos, Indiana.
Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. August 12, 2014 at the funeral home with Rev. Robert E. Rice Jr. of the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos, Indiana.
Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, Indiana with the United States Marine Corps burial unit and the Argos American Legion Post #68 preforming military honors.
