Donald Ray Becker, 75 of South Bend, Indiana passed away May 15, 2025, at 3:30 p.m. in Trail Point Village, South Bend, Indiana.

Don was born in Rochester, Indiana on November 30, 1949, to Frederick H. Becker and Marcile (Ellis) Becker. Don was raised on a small farm near Argos, Indiana, and was a member of the Walnut Church of the Brethren. He graduated from Argos High School in 1968 where he was President of Student Council and participated in Soccer and Cross Country.

Don graduated from Manchester College in 1972 with a degree in History and Political Science and later in life added a degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.

Throughout his life, Don maintained a wide range of interests. He worked as a sous chef in Boston, picked apples in Washington State, maintained the Ancestry level at the Allen County Library, and even tended bar at the Main View Inn in North Manchester. During the 30 years he resided in North Manchester, he was employed at Manchester College in food services, served as custodian at the Manchester Health Clinic and Manchester Church of the Brethren, where he was a member. At one point, Don was a manager at the Thomas Family Center in Manchester when he was transferred to Michigan for a brief period to train staff at a new Center opening there.

Many remember Don for his strong competitive nature. Over the years, he enjoyed challenging his nieces and nephew in games of Trivial Pursuit at family gatherings.

Don is survived by a brother, Ronald J (Phyllis) Becker of Plymouth and a sister, Peggy S (Chuck) Bell, North Manchester. He is also survived by nephew Kyle F (Julia) Wieland, North Manchester; nieces Christina Marshall, Ft Myers, Florida; Angela (Ed) Rodriguez, Warsaw; Heather (Matt) Howard, North Manchester; Heidi Wieland, Spokane Valley, Washington; and Kasha (Raju) Shah, North Manchester; along with several great and great-great nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Walnut Church in Don’s name at 5975 19th Road, Argos, Indiana 46501.

Per Don’s wishes there will not be a formal memorial service.
